According to NFC Forum there has been a huge rise in NFC certifications in 2020, across a wide range of products and industries. This increase is likely due, in no small part, to 9 out of the 10 top selling smartphones in the world having native NFC capabilities. This also goes to show that companies care about providing a clean user experience, and are utilising NFC capabilities in order to make that happen.
Over the course of 2029, Apple held 6 places out of the 10 top selling mobile phones. The XR took the top spot, and the iPhone 11 became the second best selling mobile phone, despite only being launched in September. The other best selling models were the 8 in 6th place, the 11 pro max in 8th, the 7 at 9th and finally the XS Max in 10th place.
Each of these models either came in core NFC from Apple, or users were able to update to it with the new iOS 13. You can read more about Apple’s new NFC capabilities here.
Following Apple is Samsung, with 3 models in the top 10 - with the Galaxy A50, A10 and A20 in 3rd, 4th and 7th place respectively. Samsung has always been ahead of the game when it comes to native NFC capabilities, and each of their models come with some level of native NFC.
